Reticulocytes are: "young" red cells. The iron deficiency anemia impairs the ability to produce rbcs and thus decreases the reticulocyte count.

Hypoproliferative : Iron is needed to make red cells. "baby red cells"/reticulocytes. Reticulocytes % is lo with iron deficiency. When iron is aderded to body reticulocyes will respond and increase in numb.
