Probably it usually would work OK. However, many or most cases of chlamydial PID also include secondary infection with mixtures of bacteria from the vagina. Therefore, the standard recommendation (e.g. from CDC) is treatment with drub combinations, usually doxycycline plus metronidazole. And if gonorrhea has not been excluded by a negative lab test, an initial injection of ceftriaxone.
