A member asked:

I've a scrape on the front of the lower shin, a few inches above the ankle. 1" x 1/2". not deep. after 5 days of neosporin, it's not very healed but doesn't seem infected. seems to break open and ooze after walking. does this just need more time?

In general unless you have some other issue slowly how you heal I would expect better improvement. But Neosporin is not a good option as it is not needed and can cause allergies. Soap and water and keeping it open to air (covered if at risk to get dirty) helps. Things like diabetes or poor circulation can slow healing. The shin can be tough as the skin is thin there. If no change soon, see someone

I am sorry but I have to disagree with the previous answer. You do not want to leave a wound open and exposed without some type of covering an antibiotic on the wound. I have seen this for over 40 years where MDs in DOs insist on keeping the wounds open and not covered and protected. Taking care of nursing home patients I would see the mistakes In leaving a wound exposed. When moist heals better
