My 15 month old received his dtap shot and flu shot about 2 days ago. he has a big red spot at the injection site. it's about an inch and it's warm to the touch. should i be concerned?

It may be an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in the vaccines. If he itches too much, you can apply Lidocaine ointment 5% or Hydrocortisone cream 1% (both OTC) to the redness site (erythema). If a vessel was broken during the vaccine, that redness (bruise) should change the color by now. Site infection with vaccination is extremely rare.

The injection site reaction is common. If the redness increases to more than two inches, please let your pediatrician know..A virtual consult with Healthtap is available. A cool compress and Tylenol doses for his weight is recommended after discussion with your physician.
