Congratulations: For giving the "gift of life". Wonderful gesture, i salute u. Life expectancy on dialysis is 5 years. Life expectancy for recipient of your kidney, if otherwise healthy is 20 - 40 years. There is no reason 4 the k going bad. Avoid xs meat/atkins diet, which can affect kidney also xs daily aspirin. Bad signs: low or no urine output, nausea, anorexia or vomiting, pain in remaining kidney, feet swell.

Can't always tell: Need to have routine follow up with your primary care provider. You need to make sure BP is normal and no other illnesses surface like diabetes or obesity. Some symptoms of kidney disease include swelling and high bp, decreased urine. Notice, these symptoms may present late in disease. Although, you may live healthy for long bec you were cleared by docs pre transplant, you need routine follow up.
