The online information is conflicting because medical science doesn't have a clear answer on this. Some (most?) BV is an sexually acquired and transmitted. However, it causes no symptoms or apparent health problems in male partners. Either way, you should seek treatment: it is always possible to successfully control BV symptoms (odor, discharge), even if long term cure can be difficult.
