I have pain in the back of my left heel (a couple inches above the sole) but not anywhere else. unsure if it's achilles as the pain isn't felt any higher up. felt when i stretch my calves in the morning, but not at all during heavy calf raises?

I can not be sure without a physical examination, and there are several possible reasons for your symptoms. It seems like an Achilles tendon sprain.

Might consider a heel spur, or plantar fasciitis. Achilles tendonitis might be answer if former is ruled out.
