A member asked:

I had hardware removal from my ankle after a fracture years ago. the doctor gave a boot to wear for two weeks. what is the purpose of this? if i have walked short distances without the boot, could they cause issues? or is it more precautionary?

Boot was to give support to your ankle. But if the fracture was years ago and you healed right you should be OK in walking short to medium distances and large ones after asking your MD

When did you have the hardware removed? If it was recently most of the time use the boot for protection for 2-5 weeks. If the hardware was removed years ago no need for a boot
