Can al amyloidosis be slow growing and chronic? i have been having stomach issues, weird cystic skin on my chest, and discoloration around my eyes and easy blood vessel breaking. i am going to a dermatologist to biopsy the skin on my chest?

Yes, it can be chronic. However, it is extremely rare at your age and the discoloration around the eyes in AL amyloidosis is in fact due to sub cutaneous bleeding, called purpura (raccoon eyes), not simply discoloration. The biopsy will give you the correct diagnosis of your problem.

As has been stated this is not usually a disease seen in young people. Untreated AL amyloidosis causes death in a few years or less due to infiltration of amyloid into the heart and kidneys especially. Amyloid would show a positive congo red stain. The main blood tests include serum electrophoresis & immunofixation as well as detection of abnormal levels of kappa or lanbda free light chains
