Gastroenteritis develops when a person ingests bacteria or virus with contaminated food or drinks. It causes fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and can make a person miserable. The infection typically lasts 5-7 days, but some minor infections can be over in 24 hours. The most important thing to do is make sure you are taking in copious amounts of water and electrolytes to counteract the losses.

In addition to the other doctors’ answers, COVID-19 should be considered if the other causes are ruled out, so if you continue to feel ill, you should consider contacting your doctor and getting tested. Meanwhile please stay away from others and practice good hand hygiene/washing to help to prevent the spread of whatever you might have. One other non-infectious cause is pregnancy.
