Your call. I would want to have no period pain or whatever can be managed simply by ibuprofen or naproxen started the day before menses is expected. Anyone with pain that alters your lifestyle should consider hormonal support (the pill). When the pill was first studied one of the reasons was this. problem, the birth control was a side effect that became its main use later.
