Hi my 8 year old sons fasting blood sugar was 84 and his a1c was 5.5 last year. he was eating alot so i got it checked. do we need to repeat his tests?

This would depend on your and his family history of DM but in general woukd rhink not. But I have not seen your son and you did not tell us his BMI. Hyperphagia is unusual in DM. But over eating can bring out DM if the genes are right/wrong.

The labs are okay. Many kids go through cycles of over/under eating which vary with growth spurts and pauses. If the kid is not loosing weight in spite of his eating pattern I don't consider diabetes part of the picture.

Provide a healthy diet, low in sugar and incorporate nuts, beans and fiber. Avoid soda and fast food. A history of obesity and family history are risk factors. Watch for signs of thirst, excessive urination and weight loss. Please follow up as indicated.
