A member asked:

After a nasty strep throat, my scalp developed these itchy bumps. they seem to grow, but also come-and-go, the itching is driving me nuts. antihistamines did not help, not much is visible on my scalp: it's a little bit red and flakey?

Strep infections are known to cause a variety of sequelae in the form of continued infection (Rheumatic Fever) and the consequences of antibody development that cause autoimmune reactions such as rheumatoid arthritis and rheumatic heart disease. There are examples of autoimmunity in every organ system including the skin. Therefore, strep needs to be identified and treated early. See a doctor now.

Skin dermatitis can be initiated with strep infection . Some immune factors may aggravate the presentation as described in this case . Undeline atopy or infection trigger an inflammatory response leading to persistent itch pump can be the case. Suggest a combination of antibiotic therapy with an antihistamine and a topical immune suppressive named Elidel . Hope that this combination can help.
