If the urine sample was obtained by “clean catch”, it may indicate a urinary tract infection. However, if you have no symptoms-like burning w/ urination, urinating more frequently or feeling like you have to urinate but little comes out, fever, etc.-then it may indicate contamination, especially if not a clean catch. If concerned, see what urine culture shows. Good luck with your surgery!

Not really. You might receive a dose of antibiotic prior to surgery, but without any urinary symptoms and no other comorbidities, such diabetes it is not likely that you have a urinary tract infection.
