Drinking saline will not help. Depends on what is causing the alkalosis. I recommend you spend $20 and get 1 month access to UPTODATE.com as acidosis/alkalosis is a complex issue.

We usually do not treat metabolic alkalosis but we only treat the cause, e.g. control the vomit or stop nasogastric suction. In very rare situation such as when patient receives a lot of intravenous citrate (alkaline) during dialysis, blood can be severely alkalotic so we have to treat with hydrochoride acid (HCL) drip via a central line, the solution has to be prepared by a clinical pharmacist.
