A member asked:

I had a needle break off in my arm approximately 4 to 5 years ago. what should i do? or how long could it be before symptoms start to occur? or am i okay now since it's been so long and nothing has happened?

If it truly broke off it would be obvious on an x-ray of the site & might even trigger a metal detector to alarm (I kept one in my office). I would expect you to have had any related symptoms by 54 years from the event. If concerned have the site evaluated.

It will take another event to dislodge it or to cause trouble as it sounds like it might have gotten lodged in the muscle. With any blood infection the needle will have to come out surgically.
