Pain and stiffness are often used for joint problem, not muscle or muscle atrophy. However, due to joint disease which is associated with pain and stiffness, people may not be active which can result in muscle atrophy, a secondary problem.

Muscular atrophy can accompany muscle and nerve disorders, but can also be secondary to disuse atrophy associated with pain and stiffness. Muscle pain could be associated with inflammatory myositis and secondary to neuropathy with "nerve pain" mimicking muscular issues. Cramps and spasms can be secondary symptoms associated with the above.
