It's difficult to differentiate LADA and type 2 diabetes mellitus in early phase unless you go through further testing. However, the time you need Insulin for controlling hyperglycemia comes much earlier in LADA (6 months to a year) compared with type 2 diabetes mellitus which can be treated successfully with diet, exercise and oral medications.

Type 1 diabetes has less genetic risk than type 2.
As long as your hbA1c is ok just continue following A1C every 3-6 months.
Normal A1c is 5.6 or less. if there is increase in A1C then getting test every 3 months is a good idea.
