You do not need ER care unless you have symptoms of incarcerated hernia which is severe pain, abdominal bloating, nausea and vomit, not able to pass gas or defecation. However, you should contact your primary doctor for a surgical referral to have it fixed ASAP.

If you are in pain that causes you to double over than you need to seek emergency care. If you have discomfort than see a surgeon to have your hernia repaired. Do not just let it go and do nothing because if the hernia contains intestine it could be life threatening
