White cell number: There are 3 types of cells in your blood: red cells which carry oxygen, white cells that fight infection, and platelets which create clots when you are injured. We analyze the blood and count how many of each type of cell are present in a sample. A normal white cell count varies from lab to lab, but generally should be 4300-10, 000. High counts usually indicate the body is fighting ainfection.
