Problem for 5 months is completely different from a whole life issue, your neurologist won't make that mistake. I wonder what the neurologist's impression was after the visit and what she told you about your problem. As a specialist myself, after seeing a referred patient, I always discuss the case with my patient about the possible diagnoses or if more tests to be done for the correct diagnosis.

The specialist is expected to brief the physician referring the patient for an opinion. It is expected and therefor not improper al all. If you lack trust in either of your doctors, you should feel free to consult a different doctor(s).
