It mainly depends on what is going on with you and what the physician is considering as the cause. If you are seeing a neurologist it may be because you are having problems with numbness or tingling or weakness in one or both arms, for example. If so, one cause can be pressure on nerves or even the spinal cord in the neck which will not show up on an x-ray.
