A member asked:

Is there any good data (rcts) on sensory processing disorder in kids without any other diagnosis (autism spectrum, dd, etc)? thank you.

Not a good diagnosis: The american academy of pediatrics has published a statement that sensory processing disorders is not a valid diagnosis. There is a huge variation in the way children process sensory information. There is no definite disorder - just variations in learning how to process. All of us are sensitive to certain types of excessive stimulation. Children learn to tolerate excessive stimulation slowly.

The American : Academy of pediatrics & coding organizations do not recognize sensory processing disorder as a stand-alone diagnosis, because it's always found as a manifestation of a neurodevelopmental disorder. Occupational therapists use the term descriptively, but it's not a medical diagnosis.
