A rabies exposure occurs when the saliva from a rabid animal gets into an open wound on the skin of a human. This is primarily through bites. Rabies is very sensitive to air and will die almost immediately upon contact with air. Therefore, having to clean up a trashcan knocked over by a Racoon will not yield a rabies infection.

There is no risk of contracting rabies in above mentioned circumstances. Check cdc.gov for reliable information regarding rabies transmission. Health related anxiety appears likely and you should discuss the possibility with your family doc.
