If the MVP is causing marked mitral regurgitation by echocardiographic criteria, I expect you will require eventual mitral valve mechanical valve replacement or transcatheter replcement or repair of your current valve. You should be advised and monitored by a cardiac surgeon or team who has a lot of experience and expertise in mitral valve replacement,repairs or nonsurgical transvalve replacemen

Moderate to severe myxomatous mitral valve with prolapse is not life threatening. If it is associated with severe mitral regurgitation, you may need evaluation by a cardiologist to determine the need for intervention. You may require antibiotics prior to any dental procedure to prevent endocarditis. Surgery is not usually indicated in the absence of severe regurgitation with symptoms. See cardiolo
