A member asked:

What are the chances of getting cancer, if any type? with a non, immediate family risk of any type of cancer? do you think a blood test in the near future will arrive that can detect cancer before it becomes a problem?

Cancer is a common disease affecting 2 of 5 people in their life time. Early detection by means of self awareness and annual screening for Cancer increase chances of curing cancer. Most screening tests use mechanical devices such as X-Rays for Mammography, Colonoscopy for checking the colon and CT scan for lung cancer. Blood tests are likely to be more effective but are not yet widely available.

We do not have nor are we anywhere near to having one universal test for cancer. Cancer is many different diseases. You can reduce your risk of cancer by adopting healthy habits: Eat a mostly vegetarian diet, avoid alcohol, tobacco and street drugs, avoid excessive exposure to sun, get HPV vaccine, exercise 30 minutes each day, drink enough water so your urine is mostly colorless.
