A member asked:

Is it normal to have a lower resting heart rate (hr) postpartum? i had a hr of 87-100 before/during pregnancy and now its avg 76 but also in the 50s/60s upon waking too. my iron/blood pressure/recovery is looking good so whats going on?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The heart rate increases during pregnancy due to a combination of vasodilatation and increased cardiac out put. Following childbirth it returns to normal . Your current heart rate may your normal rate. You have not provided your heart rate prior to pregnancy. I do not believe there is anything to be concerned about. Check with your doctor to see what your rate was prior to pregnancy.
