If there is significant obstruction, and intestinal bloating, diarrhea occur, especially with meals containing fat, a common bile duct obstruction should be investigated by your GI physician . If the obstruction visualized by a scan is diagnosed, but without symptoms, enough bile is probably present in your intestine to justify delay of surgical correction.
