A member asked:

What are the symptoms of common bile duct inflammation & can this occur several years after having a cholecystectomy?

YES...: In about 1% of gallbladder patients, common duct stones may be present but unknown, and some stones form secondarily, and can cause the typical biliary tract symptoms (ruq pain, food intolerance, nausea, etc.) a simple blood test will let you know if the liver enzymes and bilirubin are abnormal, which would then indicate further workup is necessary. Good luck.

Pain, fever, : And jaundice are typical, less likely pancreatitis and cholangitis, both serious conditions. And yes, it can be a stone that was present at the time of your cholecystectomy that was not found or overlooked or a stone that formed subsequently. If this is suspected, it can be confirmed by mr cholangiography; or ercp, an endocsopic x-ray and procedure during which a stone, if found, can be removed.
