Fatty liver is not a simple problem as you stated. One advanced stage of fatty liver is NASH. You need to lose weight with exercise and calories reduction to halt the progression and make the problem regressed. If you do not take care yourself well, the next stage of fatty liver will be NASH then fibrosis then cirrhosis.

What is a simple fatty liver now could progress to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, fibrosis and cirrhosis. It is imperative that you lose weight to reverse the fatty change and risk of progressive lesions.
