A member asked:

My child got diagnosed with septicemia . what are its causes? what diet plan should i give to my 3 years child? how much time it takes to fully recovered?

Septicemia means germs have entered the bloodstream and spread within the circulation. Their method of entry can be hard to understand, but extension from a site of initial infection in the tissues or lungs is most likely. Normal balanced nutrition is the proper plan. Recovery time depends on the type of germ, extent of infection and success of treatment. Some do not survive.

The ICU physicians may consult with a nutrition specialist. The calories and protein intake are determined. The addition of vitamins and minerals to provide adequate intake may be indicated. Cultures are used to guide treatment. Discuss daily progress with your physician, and all the best for your daughter's recovery.
