First, to sort out and objectify arm symptoms, an EMG/ NCS would help. Second, yes, you should have an opinion from a neurologist or a neurosurgeon. Third, you may be best handled conservatively with physical therapy.

I do agree with Dr. Machanic but another viable option is to see a PM&R physician which commonly treat these problems. My belief is that the doctor that saw you felt this was a nonsurgical problem. 80 to 90% of the time this can be treated with therapy which is commonly managed by specialty of physical medicine & rehabilitation. There are excellent drs in this specialty in Flint, MI near you.
