Nocturnal dry eye : Not unusual symptom. Often during sleep, eyes dry and generally some reflex tearing occurs. Mucous production also helps protect the drying ocular surface. Some individuals eyelids slightly drift open during sleep too. When you awake and during the day, tear production is increased, blinking restores surface moisture distribution, oil/mucus glands helping. Solution: gel drops/no fans/humidifier.
