Yes: Umbilical hernia repair is surgery to repair an umbilical hernia. An umbilical hernia is a sac formed from the inner lining of your belly that pushes through a hole in the abdominal wall at the belly button. At surgery the mesh is used to cover the defect and stitched to the adjacent tissues. Eventually, the tissues heal over the mesh and it becomes an integral part of the body.

Yes: Synthetic mesh is always the best option because it will incorporate into your tissues and reduce the risk of recurrence. Biological mesh is usually only used when there is contamination or infection.
