I am beginning my third trimester of pregnancy. i had a 15 white blood cell count on my last test, and then just had mine be 18. can this be normal? what might this mean? i have no symptoms?

You can have a higher than normal wbc during pregnancy as physical and mental stress is common. However your wbc is significantly elevated(18000) suggesting infection,preexisting condition or bone marrow pathology. I highly recommend consulting a hematologist for evaluation and advice. Discuss this with your obstetrician first.

That level of white blood count elevation can sometimes be within normal limits in later pregnancy, especially if you have no symptoms of any problems. If you smoke (hopefully you don’t during pregnancy ) that can elevate the WBC also. Your Dr will likely want to continue to monitor it even after your baby is delivered to be sure it comes back down, & do further testing if not
