Good question. I would say that in most cases a CBD stent would not be needed if the stone was successfully removed. The determination of whether the stent will be temporarily placed will still be up to the doctor performing the procedure. I do not want to second guess that physician, since there can always be more specific circumstances between patients that could merit stent placement.
