In America PAP smear is not recommended till age 21 due to the changes in the cervix. Discuss ultrasound to view the uterus/ ovaries. At times US is transvaginally discuss gentle dilatation of vagina with increasing diameters of tampons ( kept in only a few hours to avoid TSS) over a week or two. Insertion may break the hymen, Pain depends on how tight . If using tampons already-less issue.

Ask the doctor WHY a Pap is recommended before sexual activity, before age 21. Very importantly, young women may be judged by their happiness, their friendliness, and many other wonderful traits, but not by the condition of their hymens. It makes no difference whether a person has a big hymen, little hymen, broken hymen, or no hymen at all, as long as mucus or menstrual blood can flow through.
