A member asked:

Is syphilis curable with antibiotics? can syphilis occur without symptoms (sores, rashes)?

Yes. In the era before antibiotics syphilis was called the great masquerader since it could have so many differing symptoms or go unrecognized. Antibiotics can cure it. Failure to treat it in earlier stages can result in damage than may not be reversed by treatment.

Curable in early stages when it can get missed easily with penicillin remaining the gold standard for treatment, it is important to open up about the possibility of contamination as blood tests can still reveal it years after getting infected. Symptoms may go unnoticed by patients or improve in time with no specific treatment, the initial painless genital ulcer specifically that resolves in weeks.
