A member asked:

I'm 30 years old, 190 should be my max heart rate and i read it should be about 75% of that when exercising (about 150), but it easily goes over that when i play basketball, and not too intensely either. is this bad? should i stop playing basketball?

I recommend having a cardiologist evaluate you and order appropriate testing. I predict it would involve a physical examination, thyroid check,EKG,outpatient heart monitoring and maximal treadmill stress test although stress testing may not exactly duplicate what takes place during a basketball game. It's important to check for potentially dangerous cardiac arrhythmias both at rest& with exertion.
