A fish test examines your genes or portions of genes to diagnose certain types of malignancy or how one with malignancy may respond to treatment. A fish test is rather expensive and I haven't seen one ordered in any patient where malignancy wasn't an issue. Perhaps other docs have had experience with the test in other uses.

FISH is ordered in 2 main circumstances: as diagnosis work up in trying to rule in or rule out conditions, including cancers or in established cancers in trying to look for newer therapies suggested by specific mutations, if any identified.
