A member asked:

Intense body aches . no fever . nasal congestion and earache ( do suffer from allergies ) blood tests showed wbc 11.4 . doc prescribed antibiotics . was this common practice ? no green or yellow mucus but severe body aches and been going on 12 days ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Oral antibiotics are prescribed for a documented case of an ear drum infection as seen with an otoscope. However 12 days of severe aches is not typical & is seen with various viral syndromes. The wbc is nonspecific but if the differential cell count showed high lymphocytes a viral rather than a bacterial infection is likely. Even with no fever get tested for covid, infectious mononucleosis, hepatit
