A member asked:

What is someone with depression supposed to do when family isn't supportive and makes it worse, is it best to have no contact, ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A Tough Situation: Suffering from depression is difficult enough, then your family is unsupportive. It's like kicking you when you are down. Unfortunately this scenario is not that uncommon. Usually ignorance or poor communication is the cause. Having a therapist could be helpful. He or she can help you cope with your families attitude and might even facilitate better communication between you and your family.
