Sudden increases in total platelet count may be lab errors, but if a repeat test confirms the second value, consult a hematologist, as blood clotting can occur with abnormally high platelet counts.

All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, an intercurrent infection can raise platelet counts. You may wish to repeat the test in 3-6 months. Laboratory error is highly unlikely. Wish you good health!
