A member asked:

My 34 year son has an area in his leg that hurts to press...it's bothered him for months, no swelling and doesn't hurt unless pressed on, worried about a clot, is this alone a symptom, should i worry? wouldn't it have progressed after several months?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A venous clot would not persist "for months" and would have visible superficial skin evidence, not just "hurt when pressed", if the painful area occurs when pressing into the bone, a CT scan or MRI might be necessary to rule out a more serious disease entity.
