A member asked:

Muscle cramps only in calves. possible causes? perhaps muscles are underused and yesterday i did a lot more walking. have heard too much calcium can cause this but don't know where i'd be getting that much calcium?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Muscle cramps are quite common in otherwise healthy people. Excessive exercise in an unconditioned individual or electrolyte imbalance from any cause can also cause cramps but the role of calcium is not that well described unless the level is extremely low which is uncommon but it happens if the parathyroid glands are accidentally removed during thyroid surgery.
