What causes a throbbing feeling in top of head but no pain?

In the absence of headache this may be an irritable superficial scalp nerve which will probably resolve on its own. Throbbing headaches are more worrisome and could be due to migraine, high blood pressure,intracranial aneurysm or increased intracranial pressure. A neurologist would be best to consult as needed if throbbing persists.
