The A1C test is a reflection of an average of about 3 months of blood sugar levels while a random glucose reflects a single moment in time. An A!C level of 9 suggests uncontrolled type 2 diabetes. One good blood sugar is nice, but I would avoid thinking her problem has disappeared.

Has your mother lost weight? Another illness could result in improvement in blood glucose if it causes weight loss. If she has had unintended weight loss that is a reason to consult your doctor.
Wish you and your mother good health!
