The most important thing is to make any changes very slowly. Since he has stopped cold turkey, he should expect that he will be feeling restless, fatigued, cold, and may be feeling anxiety. Have him take Ibuprofen 400mg every 4-6 hours to help support his blood pressure and have him drink 3-3.5 liters of noncaffeinated fluids daily.
