A member asked:

Hello, i'm trying to understand something regarding antiemetics. do d2 receptor antagonist antiemetics prevent the same type of nausea/vomiting that 3-ht3 receptor antagonist antiemetics do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

D2 receptor antagonists (blockers) work by inhibition of dopamine. 5-HT3 receptor antagonists block serotonin. Both are effective in treating nausea. The 5-HT3 blockers are better at treating chemotherapy related nausea, and D2 blockers can mediate intestinal based nausea.
