The safe way is at the docs office where they have the proper tools to view the material and check the canal during the removal. Two year old's are hard. I have had to sent some to foreign body removal under anesthesia when necessary. The less you try to do yourself the better.

I agree that you should not attempt to remove it. Pediatric urgent care centers have special equipment to do so. Other options include ENT. Watch for drainage from the ear canal.
